Sherman Alexie’s Flight follows Zits, a half-Native American, half-Irish 15-year-old boy, as he navigates a life filled with pain, anger, and abandonment. After years of being shuffled through foster care and confronting his own feelings of worthlessness, Zits embarks on a surreal journey through time, inhabiting the bodies of various individuals from different periods of history. Through these experiences, Alexie examines themes of identity, violence, historical trauma, and redemption, using Zits' journey as a way to explore the complexities of forgiveness and self-discovery.

Reading Flight is both fast-paced and emotionally intense. Alexie’s raw and unflinching prose invites readers into the mind of a troubled teen who is grappling with a history of generational trauma and his own internalized anger. The novel challenges readers to confront difficult truths about identity, systemic violence, and the possibility of personal growth and redemption, all while maintaining Alexie's signature blend of dark humor and poignant insight.
