One of the most pervasive cautionary tales in literature, Frankenstein explores the reflection of Dr. Frankenstein's journey into perpetual misery and torment. It comes to no surprise, then, to learn that Shelley was exploring aspects of technology and creation in her own time, as well as torment in her own life after the death of her prematurely-born first child.

Mary Shelley titled the tale 'The Modern Prometheus,' but she also seems to be retelling the judgement of Satan as told in Milton's Paradise Lost. Consequently, we will pair this story with our selection from Paradise Lost and explore the parallels of the characters and their destinies.
